Kamøyvær
Kamøyvær is a friendly fishing village which lies in the middle of the large and rich fishing grounds, the Kamøyfjorden, on the east side of Magerøya. The imposing fishing fleet operates from the quiet harbour in the centre of the village.

There is a small permanent population of about 70. There is a kindergarten and a school.
The fishing fleet supplies fresh fish every day to the local fish factory. They produce salted fish and export fresh fish products to the European market.
Around the 20th century the first people settled here. Kamøyvær has been the final destination for a small migration about 90 years ago. Fishing families moved here from different places along the coast of the Ice Sea. The coastal Sami settled here and from the east people came from the Finnish forests. Three different cultures met with one another and you could hear three different languages on the pier in Kamøyvær. Later the Norwegian language dominated and today all the ethnic borders have gone.
In Kamøyvær you will find an established gallery and a small workshop which sells locally produced souvenirs made from local materials. Here they offer you sea fishing trips, accommodation and food.
