Skarsvåg
Skarsvåg - the northernmost fishing village in the world!
The last stop on the way up to the North Cape is the charming fishing village Skarsvåg. It’s not only the most northern fishing village on Magerøya but also the most northern fishing village in the world. From here it’s about 13 km to North Cape. Skarsvåg has a strong fishing fleet that fishes around North Cape. The cod taken ashore here and delivered to the local fish factory is considered to make the best salted fish in the world.

With its 150 inhabitants Skarsvåg has its own school, swimming pole, chapel and a Christmas house which is open the year round. In the summer you can visit a fishing centre where you can see live fish and crustaceans like King Crabs as well as a gallery and a souvenir shop. There are also plenty of opportunities for eating and overnight accommodation.
A half hour walk on a marked tourist path will take you to the exiting mountain formation Kirkeporten. It is presumed to be a pre-Christian Sami sacrificial site. From here you have a wonderful view of the North Cape cliff and the horn.
