Winter at North Cape.
Here at North Cape the first snowfall comes in the beginning of November. The Arctic winter climate makes it especially challenging and at the same time very exciting, to visit Europe’s northernmost point at this time of the year. From August the quietness is coming down over North Cape. In this period you can experience Europe’s northernmost corner without any disturbances. This is the time that the sun turns the sky into all possible red colours, just before it disappears behind the horizon. This is the time that you can really enjoy the greatness and the view from North Cape. From the middle of November there is the “dark time” at North Cape. We can recommend a visit at the top of Europe while the darkness is slumbering over the landscape and the northern lights are dancing in the Polar sky. On Europe’s northernmost outpost the weather can change rapidly. There you always have to be prepared that plans and walking experiences have to be adjusted to the local weather for hold.
The North Cape road is open for traffic, BUT: From appx 01.12. until appx. 30.04. (the winter months) it is only possible to drive up to North Cape by following a convoy between the Skarsvåg crossing and North Cape (13 km ).
