About Magerøya Vel
Magerøya Vel is a volunteer-run organisation focused on maintaining and improving the natural environment on Magerøya. The group works to reduce plastic waste, clean coastal areas and raise awareness about how fragile Arctic landscapes can be.
The organisation grew out of a collaboration between Honningsvåg School, local artists and community members who wanted to combine practical cleanup work with creativity and education. Projects include regular volunteer cleanup days, art made from collected waste and outreach activities that encourage both residents and visitors to take care of the island.
Magerøya Vel operates entirely on voluntary work and donations. Funds raised through local contributions and art projects go directly to environmental work and small improvements that benefit the island and community.
